A bit about the documentary:
The film follows the journey of DJ (Deej) Savarese, a nonspeaking autistic poet, playwright, activist, and ASAN Scholar Fellow, as he goes from his last years of high school on to become the first nonspeaking autistic at Oberlin College. It offers a refreshing first-hand perspective on neurodiversity and inclusion. The film is directed by Robert Rooy and produced by both Robert and DJ. Several of DJ’s poems, set to captivating animation by Em Cooper, are featured in the film. You can see a trailer for the film here: https://www.deejmovie.com/#watch-trailer
A nonspeaking young man dreams of autistic civil rights. With its insider view of autism, Deej challenges us all to live inclusion. This free film screening will be followed by a panel discussion on autism and the future of inclusion.
