Gesher Disability Resources Parent Group

This upcoming session of the Gesher Disability Resources (formerly known as the Council For Jews With Special Needs) parent group will feature three amazing speakers from Jewish Genetics and the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) for a discussion about research implications related to Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The parent group is coming up on Monday, May 8 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. There will be staff available for anyone who wishes to bring their son or daughter that evening so parents may enjoy the presentation. Who should attend?
- Parents of children (all ages to adult) with special needs who want to talk with each other
- Educators, clinicians, siblings, and grandparents who also want to share
- Those who want to learn about disability-related services from both professional and personal perspectives
Speakers:
- Wendy Carriere, Executive Director, Jewish Genetic Diseases Center of Greater Phoenix. Wendy will talk about the prevalence of being a carrier of a Jewish genetic disease and their annual testing day(s).
- Christopher J. Smith, Ph.Dfrom the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC). Dr. Smith is the VP and Research Director at SARRC. Dr. Smith will discuss diagnostics related to the autism spectrum disorder as well as research implications related to ASD and research conducted by SARRC.
- Jessica Laflin from the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC). Jessica, a research recruiter from SARRC, will be discussing several research studies presently underway at the center. These studies involve all age groups starting at three years old and range from a digestive enzyme replacement study, to a study focused on sociability, and a DNA study involving both the parents and the child. Jessica will discuss the benefits to the community and to individual participants and their families by participating in the research studies.
