Serving Survivors of Sexual Violence with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Picture of text describing the event.
Date/Time:
Monday, June 21, 2021 - 8:30am to 4:30pm

People with intellectual disabilities are sexually assaulted at a rate seven times higher than people without disabilities. This training will provide advocates with tangible best practices for serving survivors with I/DD. We will also discuss current state-wide efforts to increase survivors accessibility and opportunities for advocates to be part of the solution in enhancing programs' response to sexual violence survivors with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Attendees will leave this training with an increased understanding of trauma informed strategies to increase survivor well-being, disability etiquette, the barriers for survivors with I/DD accessing services, the similarities between the sexual violence and disability movements, and overall a greater sense of comfortability and competency in providing services to this population.
