Largest ADDPC grant cycle awards $515,000 in Summer 2019

Statewide council to fund projects to foster inclusion and research issues

PHOENIX—(July 25, 2019) The Arizona Developmental Disabilities Planning Council is proud to announce more than $515,000 in grant awards for projects for Arizonans with developmental disabilities as part of our Summer 2019 funding cycle.Press Release

The largest award of nearly $120,000 went to the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions to pair up with Daring Adventures on inclusive recreation for students with disabilities in schools.

“We hope these projects further the work of inclusion in Arizona schools, workplaces and leadership spaces,” said Erica McFadden, executive director of the Council. “Whether it’s having conversations with police officers at Be Safe workshops or giving a boost to customized job training, we want to provide opportunities for everyone to fully participate in their communities.”

A full list of our new grant awards and contracts is listed below:

Competitive Grants

Research: Impact Analytica and Improvement Assurance Group: $92,000 to study Sexual Violence of People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Arizona

Employment: Beacon Group: $70,000 for integrated employment programs

Self-Advocacy Projects:

  • Arizona Peer and Family Coalition: $10,000 for behavioral health leadership groups
  • Native American Disability Law Center:  $38,000 for Navajo Nation self-advocacy projects

Conferences and Trainings - $10,000 each

  • Arizona Center for Disability Law: 2020 African American Conference on Disabilities
  • The Arc of Arizona:  Family-focused resource conference
  • Autism Society of Greater Phoenix: Be Safe trainings in Show Low, Douglas, Yuma, Flagstaff
  • Down Syndrome Network of AZ: “Down Life’s Path” workshops for daily living
  • Raising Special Kids: Family-focused symposium on strategies for challenging behaviors
  • University of Arizona Sonoran University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities: Future planning and “adulting” workshops

Non-Competitive Contracts

  • Center for the Future of Arizona: $50,000 for Inclusive Participating Budgeting in Schools
  • Arizona State University, Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions: $120,000 for Therapeutic and Inclusive Recreation Programs
  • University of Arizona Sonoran University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities: $75,000 for Research on Transition Services in Arizona Schools
