The nation has come a long ways from laws prohibiting children with disabilities from a free public education and relegating them to often life-long state institutions. 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which ensures eligible students with disabilities a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). Over the years, this law has undergone numerous amendments to strengthen its effectiveness and its inclusion principals.
